an American talking rationally about people who dislike America

Very rarely do we read or hear a metered and considered analysis to Anti-Americanism from within America. Most US commentators are of the opinion that "if you're not with us, you're against us" when faced with people who dislike America and its role in the current world environment.

Neil Gross is assistant professor of sociology at Harvard University and wrote this article, which appeared in the Boston Globe and the New York Times. He concedes that there are reasons for Anti-Americanism besides war and jealousy. He also believes that it can and should be remedied through the US behaving differently (better) in world affairs.
